The Okanagan Lake dam operator in Penticton has reduced outflows, and Okanagan River is running close to its 25th percentile of flows. Okanagan Lake is below its 25th percentile lake level (more than 75% of the time, the lake is higher at this date).
Seasonal forecasts in the U.S. and Canada project a warmer than normal fall and winter. This is in part due to the continued El Niño conditions in the Pacific Ocean.
The U.S. government website for Climate.gov, says that there is a 95 % chance of El Niño continuing through the winter, and an over 60% chance that it will be a strong event.
