💧 March Board Meeting Highlights are here!
Here’s what came out of the March 3 Okanagan Basin Water Board meeting:
🌨️ DROUGHT ALERT: All three Okanagan snowpack stations are measuring below normal (62–88%), and the Brenda Mines station just recorded its lowest snowpack since 1992. Without significant spring rain, local creeks and water supplies could face real pressure this summer.
🐚 INVASIVE MUSSELS UPDATE: Our updated Vulnerability Assessment Guide now covers golden mussels — an emerging threat recently detected in California and moving north. If you manage a raw water system, it’s time to reassess.
💰 RECORD GRANT DEMAND: The 2026–27 Water Conservation & Quality Improvement Grant Program received 34 applications requesting $882,000 — the most in program history! Projects cover everything from habitat restoration to drought planning.
📷 TECH INNOVATION: A UBCO engineering team developed an underwater HD camera tool to improve invasive milfoil management in Okanagan lakes.
