The Okanagan Basin Water Board invites you to its 2015 Annual Meeting and 45th Birthday Celebration, Friday, Sept. 4, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna.
This event, free and open to the public, will include a presentation on the release of our 2015 Annual Report “It Starts With Water”, and a celebration of 45 successful years of delivering programs that improve and protect Okanagan water.
Also, we’re very pleased to announce this year’s keynote speaker is Julia Lew with the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) in Las Vegas. Julia is one of the program leads on addressing invasive quagga mussels for the agency, which draws on the infested waters of Lake Mead. She recently completed a comprehensive cross-departmental report on the mussels impacts and how the utility has responded. Julia’s primary work is to lead special pilot projects on new water quality treatments – including treatments for managing quagga mussels in the SNWA’s infrastructure. This will be a fascinating ring-side account of what may be required in the Okanagan in case of an invasion, and additional motivation for preventing zebra and quagga mussels in our valley.
