The former chairman of the Okanagan Basin Water Board has been appointed to cabinet as Parliamentary Secretary for Water Supply and Allocation to the minister of environment.
John Slater was elected this spring to represent the Okanagan-Similkameen riding.
Slater said it feels great to be able to work with B.C. Environment Minister Barry Penner on water issues.
“Water is a number one issue in the Okanagan as far as future needs are concerned, for both agriculture and development,” he commented.
He said he had indicated to the premier that he was particularly interested in water issues.
Slater said he will have to come up to speed with water issues from around the rest of the province.
He hadn’t been briefed yet on just what the new post will entail.
