As you may have heard in the news, weather forecasters are now warning about the increasing possibility of drought conditions this spring, due to the below normal snowpack. It again demonstrates the balancing act of the dam manager to each year estimate whether to hold more water in the lake in anticipation of low snowpacks, or release water to accommodate both.
As of the latest BC River Forecast Centre report on February 15, the Okanagan snowpack was at 82% of normal.
The US Drought Monitor (updated more frequently than Canada’s drought monitor), puts Okanogan County, just south of us, in moderate drought.
