Pond Rehabilitation and Interpretive Trail Project

This project was intended to protect and restore two ephemeral ponds in the Black Mountain area of Kelowna. The natural clay bottom of the pond had been punctured by years of cattle incursions from the local grazing fields, leading to a reduction in water retention throughout the year. Fencing was installed around the ponds to prevent further damage by the cattle, while still allowing natural wildlife to access the water. The project also included baseline data gathering for water level, and will continue to monitor water levels to measure the effects of the restoration efforts. Similar projects can use this data to determine best practices for restoration throughout the valley.
