Project Year:
2020
Project Budget:$30,000
WCQI Grant:$30,000
Organization:Okanagan Nation Alliance
Project Description:
The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is dedicated to upholding the sacredness of water within the Syilx Okanagan territory. This is a part of the leadership direction but moreover, a part of the Syilx responsibility to siwlkw (water). After completion of a multi-year EFN study in 18 Okanagan streams, the ONA is now ready to move into the communication and implementation phase. The Establishing a Syilx Framework to Implement Environmental Flow Needs (EFN) aims to create awareness and communicate the EFN internal (and external) to ONA communities and uncover a Syilx Okanagan conceptual process to utilize and implement EFNs within each distinct community. The framework for implementing EFNs may vary between communities based on community needs, issues, priorities and training. Training communities how to create their own specific monitoring programs may also be an achievable outcome.
