Fostering Collaboration to Promote a Culture of Landscape Water Conservation
Project Year:
2014
Project Budget:$54,510
WCQI Grant:$18,000
Organization:Okanagan Xeriscape Association
Project Description:
This project used educational and marketing strategies to reduce outdoor residential water use.
The funding allowed OXA to further strengthen its partnerships with Okanagan agencies also involved with the application and promotion of xeriscape, in the commercial, municipal and not for profit sectors. These agencies include Friends of the Summerland Ornamental Gardens (FOG), the Okanagan Waterwise program, Bylands Nursery, and the RDOS. In partnership with these agencies, two initiatives were rolled out valley wide: the Storm Water Management/Rain Garden workshops, and the plant labelling program. As we continue to work together valley-wide to spread the message of water conservation, all Okanagan communities are unified in their growing understanding behind the message of one valley – one watershed.
