Groundwater Source Water Assessment and Protection Plan
Project Year:
2014
Project Budget:$35,000
WCQI Grant:$15,000
Organization:Town of Oliver, BC
Project Description:
The project assessed and identified areas to protect for one of the Okanagan valley’s largest and most vulnerable aquifer systems. The Town relies on two “IA” aquifers, which have been identified by the Province of B.C. as highly productive, with high use, and high vulnerability, and also on the priority list of Top 20 Aquifers to further characterize in the Province.
There is recognition that the source water assessment report is not an end but a beginning….instead of becoming yet another report to sit on the shelf the success of the project will ultimately be measured to the extent that the town and its government partners and stakeholders can make progress establishing measures to protect the Town’s wells and the aquifers into the future.
