Sediment Mitigation Strategies for Lower Mission Creek
Project Year:
2008
Project Budget:$555,000
WCQI Grant:$10,000
Organization:Mission Creek Working Group
Project Description:
The Mission Creek Working Group is a multi-agency group working to restore large portions of Mission Creek through large projects such as dyke setbacks, re-meandering of the river channel and installation of sediment control measures. This sediment mitigation project reduced the need for flood control maintenance and improved kokanee habitat for lower Mission Creek. The study involved an analysis of sediment sources and documentation of deposition areas. It also analyzed hydrological data to determine the frequency and amount of sediment transport/deposition flow events. The analysis identified sediment mitigation strategies to reduce the need for flood control maintenance and ultimately improve habitat for fish and wildlife in lower Mission Creek.
