Ultrasonic Flow Meter
Project Year:
2011
Project Budget:$6,000
WCQI Grant:$4,500
Organization:Otter Lake Water District
Project Description:
The Otter Lake Water District installed an ultrasonic flow meter to monitor the drawdown on their well during long periods of pumping. It didn’t take long after the installation of the new meter for staff to notice an increase in accuracy as compared to the old meter. The data collected has been compared to a Ministry of Environment well that is located 25 meters away from the District’s. This allowed for a greater understanding of the flow and recharge into the aquifer used by both organizations and can aid them in water conservation efforts within the distribution system. The knowledge gained from this project on the relationship between drawdown and flow removed can be shared with neighbouring districts or other levels of government to better understand recovery in aquifers.
