Water Leak Detection Equipment
Project Year:
2014
Project Budget:$45,000
WCQI Grant:$25,000
Organization:District of West Kelowna
Project Description:
With the newly purchased leak detection equipment The District of West Kelowna has prioritized leak reduction investigations, taking into account the age of infrastructure, system pressure losses and statistical information provided in the Water Master Plan.
Currently 13,000 customers draw 14,250 ML of water per year from Okanagan Lake and the Powers Creek and Lambly Watersheds. This equipment will reduce unaccounted for use by approximately 10% over the next few years and 1,420 of water will be retained annually in the Okanagan Basin.
In 2014 the equipment was used ten times to investigate suspected leaks and confirmed water losses in two instances. A roll out plan for targeted use will be created in 2015.
